Safety Works Launches the ECITB Industrial Drone Operations Course Globally.
Safety Works are the ONLY Approved Provider of the ECITB Industrial Drones Operations (IDO) Training Standards in the World. We set the standard so high with our materials that nobody else, has yet, managed to match us. To date, nobody else has yet been approved by ECITB to offer the IDO going into 2021.
We have chosen Thailand as our hub in SE Asia and are very pleased to announce our collaboration with the International Assessment Centre, based in the UK, who have snapped up the opportunity of representing & delivering the IDO to clients in the UK & also in Oman.
Why take the IDO?
OGUK Recommend that Drone Pilots are trained over and above the commercial pilot licenses that are gained for ‘normal’ commercial work.
The ECITB Industrial Drone Operations Training Standards fulfil the duty of care and responsibility that the major energy and utility companies require in order to prove that the drone pilots they hire can perform to the highest levels required in challenging conditions.
As a requirement within all commercial drone Operations Manuals the operator must mention training. The ECITB IDO is possibly the quickest method of proving ongoing training to a set of UK prescribed standards there is. Simply take the e-Learning and or the renewal every three years, mention this in the Ops Manual and you are covered as a company should the CAA come along and audit you.
Also, Duty Holders have a responsibility to check that pilots are trained and current, how can they do this if they have no knowledge of drone operations? It is a good idea to have at least one person on each Asset that is trained and understands the potential risks, how to plan and how to to check upon drone operators that are either bidding for work, or are due to fly on your Assets.
HSE Specialists, PTW Coordinators, Engineers also need to know how to control, plan and risk assess for Drone Flights over their Assets. The IDO has a Document Library that contains Drone Specific (generic) Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Technical Bid Criteria, Scope of Work, Example Capture Plans, Example Flare Stack Inspections plus much, much more from which delegates can view industry standard documentation,
The Document Library alone is well worth the price of the course in terms of training, time spared in preparing and the know how of what is actually required in Industry settings to the highest of industry standards. The IDO e-Learning contains the Safety Works ICAO / EU / UK CAA Syllabus Course, it also contains our excellent Commercial Drone Academy which covers 1. Photography, 2. Videography, 3. Surveying & Mapping, 4. Telecom Tower Inspections, 5. Thermography Level 1 & 6. Multispectral Imaging. These courses combined cost $380 when sold separately.
The IDO e-Learning course can be used to prove to Civil Aviations Authorities globally that a full and rigorous Theoretical Course, that matches the commercial drone pilots license of the ICAO / UK CAA / EU Syllabus, has been undertaken. Oman, Tanzania, amongst others, require this when applying for a Commercial Drone Pilots’ Licence. Take the IDO and prove to your CAA that you have covered the required Syllabus set by ICAO and the Civil Aviation Authorities above.
The Syllabus they require, and which the IDO comprehensibly covers, comprises of:
1. Air Laws & Responsibilities, 2. RPA Airspace Operating Principles, 3. Airmanship & Aviation Safety, 4. Human Factors – Performance & Limitations, 5. Meteorology, 6. Navigation Charts, 7. Aircraft Knowledge & Batteries, 8. Operating Procedures
Within the IDO we also cover much more such as drone selection, how to plan and conduct flights in commercial or built up areas, around railways sidings, along linear assets such as power lines or railways, refineries, oil & gas plants / platforms, rigs and much, much more.
The e-learning IDO fully meets the theoretical knowledge required to meet, fully understand and pass the exacting ECITB Industrial Drone Operations Training Standards.
The course is delivered via the Safety Works, ECITB Approved, Learning Management System, with easy to read materials backed up with diagrams and videos.
There are 20 Topics, each with a set of multiple choice tests. Pass all the Topic Tests and you will receive the ECITB IDO e-Learning Certificate – perfect for managers, supervisors HSE specialists etc that need to know the theoretical part of industrial drone operations.
Progression
Prove you can plan and fly to the highest of standards that are needed commercially:
The Blended 3 Day course is available in your Country where you will be walked and talked through the planning stages for a simple and then complex drone flight as desk top exercises. We try to steer clear of PowerPoint presentations and walk delegates through the 2 desktop exercises. During the training we will practice the set of 9 Flight Drills in ATTI Mode to prove that you can operate and fly an industrial drone to the highest of standards that are required when operating on high risk and expensive assets.
Day 3 of the blended course is ‘test’ day. You will sit a 50 question (multiple choice) exam taken from the e-Learning course. Plan a complex Drone Flight as a desktop exercise and complete the set of flight drills in ATTI MODE.
Are you already a Competent Commercial Pilot?
ECITB recognise that flying a drone is not a vocational qualification such as conducted when an apprentice. For this reason a 3 renewal is required to prove the Drone Pilot is current and can still prove the required skills – much like a Commercial Airline Pilot does.
This 3 Year Renewal is the same as the Day 3 ‘test’ day on the Blended Course above.
ECITB also know that skilled Drone Pilots / Operators already exist. This is why they have a direct route enabling pilots to jump straight in and prove competence by taking a 1 Day Assessment – same as the renewal / Day 3 of the Blended course.
